Children and Faith

Children's brains are like a sponge just waiting to soak up whatever they are exposed to. God entrusts parents with the most solemn work of surrounding them with lessons that will equip them to resist the devil and stand for God even as adults. To this extend, God commanded the Israelites to teach the children scriptures every chance they got:

Deuteronomy 11:19: And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

If this was so imperative then when there was no media to counteract, how much more should we teach our children now who exposed to so much garbage through media and peer pressure from a morally sick society? As seriously as we want God's words to be in our hearts and soul, we must desire more for our innocent children. Jesus resisted the devil when tempted through the knowledge of the written word. We should internalize the word too so that we can resist sin throught the knowledge of the truth.

Our Children need to develop their own faith. Teaching them scripture is giving them a tool they will need when faced with moral issues. Just like Jesus, they too will resist temptation by quoting what God says about things through the written word. Jesus said,

"Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God". Matthew 4:4

We only really have a few years with those precious little ones before they grow up to be their own men and women. God has put them in our hands to influence them for the right ...only for a little while. Giving them bread will make them healthy physically, but teaching them every word that comes from the mouth of God will help the grow spiritually.
